BIOPATH in close collaboration with new initiative SamBio in Gothenburg on business challenges related to biodiversity

In Gothenburg, the knowledge environment on the challenges of biodiversity is strengthened by a new three-year project with support from the Region Västra Götaland. Just like BIOPATH the SamBio project is conducted as an interdisciplinary collaboration where researchers in economics and ecology work together to increase knowledge and develop new models for the promotion of biodiversity.

The Gothenburg Centre for Global Biodiversity Studies (GGBC), a hub for knowledge sharing and skills development since 2017, is the host of the SamBio project. The Centre has eighteen partners, within and outside academia, working in different ways with biodiversity.

“We believe that this new initiative and collaboration will have ripple effects and can establish Gothenburg as a central hub for research and development on business with a high degree of ecosystem integrity," says Viktor Elliot, Associate Professor, School of Business and Economics at the University of Gothenburg, active in both projects.

The SamBio project has two main objectives. The first is to reach companies that, through increased cooperation, exchange of experience and capacity building, will gain the motivation and tools to act and work with biodiversity in the long term. The second is to develop materials for teachers and interactive programmes for young people to enhance awareness and engagement for biodiversity.

“We look forward to future exchange with SamBio and welcome the new Director of GGBC, Jenny Klingberg. We share common goals and especially our ambitions to reach out to both companies and create general awareness in the public on the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity”, says Susanne Arvidsson, Programme Director Mistra BIOPATH and Associate Professor, Lund School of Economics and Management.
